Why Give To a Gallery?

Intervention into East London artist run gallery space. Permanent installation.
Working with the economy of gift giving* and in response to the way in which the space was run, we decided to offer a gift that was serviceable and functional and that would highlight the gift giving economy that existed in the gallery. The action is a metaphor that mirrors the function of the space. We had a much needed automatic door closer installed into the front door of the gallery. We made a film of the installation to visualise the action and a postcard to describe the intent.
